Case Study: John Chow Effect?
I got a review from John Chow Dot Com For ViralNetworks and its now been a couple of weeks so decided I would put up a very quick (less then 2 min) video about it… Does John still have ‘The Chow Effect?’
So what do you think? Should I get a review from John for my BRAND NEW site that is still in Pre-Prelaunch? In case you don’t know the one I’m talking about it is ViralBlogAds, where I have teamed up with Simon Emery of OIOpublisher to bring a PPC solution to bloggers wanting to show banners on their site and fill default inventory.
Is It Worth it? What is your view on JohnChow Reviews?

But one thing. John Chow effect does not always be the same. It sometimes depends on the website that is being reviewed.
ViralNetworks was one thing that people actually had loved, and they were happy to join in, whether it was referred by him or not.
VBA also is not a bad project being run by you guys right now. Make the site interface a bit better and get the John Chow effect get going once again.
Btw offtopic: The video was good, but wanted to ask one thing. In mac, how do you create that video with your voice being recorded and the desktop being captured as the video part? As the one in your video.

Then I use the iMovie for adding my preroll in with the video and editing out any parts I didnt want in there

07/10/2008 at 6:55 pm // PermalinkI’m sorry but as I just posted on Johns site, I don’t see how you can think of this as good value in any way?
For a free $6,700 prelaunch contest, to only get 72 comments, 82 members & 267 visits, thats almost $2 a visit or $6 a sign up to give away $6,700 along with the $500 review cost.
I do hope his referrals bring you in many downlines, but that can’t be attributed to the John Chow effect, hope it works out.

07/10/2008 at 8:22 pm // PermalinkWell I think its worth it to pay that amount of money, you get Quality Traffic (blogger) and the will bring more traffic for ViralNetworks when they join and get more member. Your review will stay forever in there and it will bring continuous traffic even it small.
Chetan was right about People who visit ViralNetworks will join whether it referred from JC or not, I just knew about ViralNetworks, the video presentation is the one that attract me to join…

But John Chow’s reviews just create some extra buzz into the market. that’s it.

He is worth the price, i thought it was someone else and so said it was overpriced.
His themes at woothemes are all awesome.

But yeah, since Adi is quite reputed he might have charged.
You should have tried Balkhis, he’s one damn good innovative designer.
Anyways since you are up, no regrets!

I think a review on JohnChow is always worth it.
I have a question for you Colin… Do you check out how sign-ups are generated by members participating in the contest on VN?
I mean it´s not difficult to get 700 paid sign-ups/referrals…
It´s obviously ridiculous to do that but I did, for example, notice that someone suddenly appeared on number 1 with 208 referrals.
Cheers.

24/10/2008 at 12:07 pm // PermalinkYeah she was high up on the contest last time, we will check her stats before the contest is over, as you are right, we want active members who are signup becuase they want to be a member of VN.
We will be rolling towards first launch in 2 weeks which will be for about 50-100 top members to get into the site with most of the features and will then make sure all is going well and get mods before we launch the main site to prevent lots of spam etc.
