WordPress Ping List

WordPress Ping List – Just a short blog post to share my recommended WordPress ping list (also known as update services) with you. I gathered this information from both personal experience and external resources and you may use it for your own WordPress blog(s) of course.

Ping services are tools that you can use to let other people know that you have updated your blog. Every time you publish a new blog post or update an existing one, WordPress notifies these update services, so people visiting sites like Technorati can find your most recent posts.

If you aren’t too sure where to add these, log into WordPress and go to the ‘Writing Settings’ section. Click ‘Writing’ under ‘Settings’. Then simply add the WordPress ping list to the dedicated text box, so when you publish a new blog post, WordPress automatically notifies these sites and you get more exposure.

Domain Name Research

Domain name research is of paramount importance when it comes to setting up an online presence, whether it’s a site, blog or squeeze page. That’s why I already published a blog post on how to find a domain name. As I previously mentioned, a good domain name can be a great asset for your online business. However, I noticed that too many tend to forget about domain name keyword research.

I strongly recommend you to use the keywords you want your online presence to rank for in your domain name. A keyword-rich domain name can give you a competitive advantage, helping you rank better in search engines and thus generating additional traffic to your pages. When it comes to Search Engine Optimization (SEO), domain names can be of great help, along with other on-page and off-page factors of course.

However, remember to avoid dashes and numbers when possible, and choose a common domain name extension like .com, .net or .org. In my previous blog post on how to find a domain name, I recommend a few domain name suggestion tools. However, there’s a major downside: they don’t mention anything about keyword popularity.

You thus need to combine keyword research (with Google Keyword Tool for example) and domain name availability checking (with 1and1 for example, or even NameCheap for bulk search). Find Good Domain Name

Are you one of those struggling to find a good domain name? If you are, don’t worry too much… you aren’t alone. I already had several of my customers asking me how to find a good domain name for their site, blog or squeeze page. According to them, most good ones are already taken… which is partly true. Finding a good domain name for your site or whatever the type of online presence you’re planning to have isn’t easy. However, don’t just hurry to register a domain name but rather take the time to think about what you really need or want.

Some will say that a domain name isn’t that important… Well, a good domain name can definitely help your site rank better in search engines but most importantly it can grab your visitors’ attention and stay in their mind. A great domain name can even become one of your greatest assets! Don’t be too over excited though. A great domain name can help you rank better in search engines for example but isn’t necessarily a guarantee of success…

How your domain name should be:

– Short
– Memorable
– Easy to spell
– Easy to type
– Descriptive…

Easy to say but difficult to do… By descriptive I mean including keywords (as in viralmarketingmanuscript.com even though this domain name is a little too long), because they can help you rank better in search engines. You should avoid dashes and numbers as much as you can. Web users are now overloaded with information, so it MUST be memorable. Unless you target a specific geographic area, choose a common domain name extension such as .com, .net or .org.

Study the competition, ask around you and maybe use domain name suggestion tools like Domains Bots, Domain Tools or Dot-o-Mator. Once you have an idea of what you need or want, check the availability on a domain name registrar like GoDaddy or NameCheap. You will need to perform a search to check if the domain name you want, with the extension you want, is available or not. Feel free to perform as many searches as you want as they will help you find alternatives.

If you really struggle in choosing a domain name for your online presence, it’s still time to do a brainstorming. Most good domain names are already  taken, that’s right… but with some creativity you can find a great one that will perfectly match your needs. Try to think outside the box but always remember the characteristics of a good domain name.

You can purchase your domain name from a large range of websites but I tend to purchase mine from well established companies like GoDaddy and NameCheap. They are large companies that aren’t going out of business anytime soon… which is definitely a plus. Both GoDaddy and NameCheap provide good support. Finding Good Joint Venture (JV) Partners

Finding good JV Partners for your online product is not as easy as you may think. You want to make sure that you find the right persons who will promote your product the best possible way. Whatever your product is: an ebook, a software, a membership site… you should put a decent effort into searching for good JV Partners as they could have a decisive influence on the overall success of your product. Some internet marketers are just so good at promoting online products and services. You don’t want to miss out on these big shots because they can boost your online revenues in no time.

Finding JV Partners

By good JV Partners we mean partners who will actually promote your product, on the long-term (and not just as a one-off). Just don’t pick people randomly, but make sure they would be interested in promoting your product and actually be able to do it well. It’s even better if they have promoted a similar product in the past, or if they have a product or service that is complementary with yours.

Here are some of the techniques we use to find good JV Partners:

– Your existing contacts

If you’re a well-established internet marketer, you certainly already have a list of contacts. Who do you think would be able to promote your product the way you want it? Write a nice email and send it to them. Don’t forget to mention how much money they would earn on each referral. If you’re totally new to the industry, try the next technique.

– Warrior Forum

Warrior Forum is simply the best internet marketing forum you can find on the web (no offense to other forums). Check out their ‘Warrior Joint Ventures’ section or simply search for products that you think would fit with yours and contact their creators.

– Google

Simply search for products that you think would be complementary with your own product, and contact the site admins. You need to send them a nice, customized email. Don’t just blast them with a generic email that will not stand out from the other JV inquiries. Ensure that the sites have a decent Alexa ranking, so you are sure that they actually have traffic.

– Referral contests

Several sites organize referral contests (like we do on ViralUrl and ViralHosts). If you can check the contest rankings, you can see who are the best at promoting the product and thus quite likely to promote your own product the best possible way. The best promoters like to do it their way, but make sure you offer your JV Partners promotional tools so they can blast their list or put banners on their site with only little effort.

– Directories and networks

There are several directories and networks where you will be able to make a JV offer for your product. Mike Filsaime’s JV Network is one of them, but there are several other ones. Browse around and see if you can find what you’re looking for.

– Social networks

Just tweet about it! Or whatever your favorite social network are, just let people know that you are searching for JV Partners. That’s a really cool way to interact with potential JV Partners but you then have to decide whether or not they qualify.

Have you thought about starting your own Internet business at home? If you have, then you are not alone, there are millions who are now making money online by creating niche market blogs.

Don’t worry, this does not mean you can’t do it, matter of fact, you have access to more tools and ideas than ever before.

What Is A Niche Market Blog?

Blogging is a great way to get started, and when I mention blogging, I don’t mean your personal family blog, I mean Niche Blogging.

What is a niche?

According to Wikipedia: niche (plural niches)

(architecture) A cavity, hollow, or recess, generally within the thickness of a wall, for a statue, bust, or other erect ornament. Hence, any similar position, literal or figurative. “Images defended from the injuries of the weather by niches of stone wherein they are placed.” —Evelun.

(biology) A function within an ecological system to which an organism is especially suited.

(by extension) Any position of opportunity for which one is well-suited, such as a particular market in business.

Something To Offer

In order for you to make some money online, you need to be able to have something to offer in exchange for the dollar. So, what can you sell and how do you know if it will be in demand or popular?

How do you know if your niche  market is something that Internet shoppers are interested in?

Where To Begin?

Let’s begin by checking out the web sites, publications, and periodicals that others are reading and shopping for. A great place to begin is Amazon.com.

This is like a giant library of information just waiting for you to take advantage of. You will be amazed when you begin to gather ideas as easily as thumbing through your favorite magazine.

You will have only spent a few moments on Amazon, and have so many ideas, you won’t know which one to use first for your niche market blog.

Magazine & Newspaper Subscriptions

The first place you want to go is to look at the magazine and newspapers offered on Amazon.

Once you are in this area, look to the left side of the page and you will see a long list of categories. You will find unlimited amounts of ideas for your niche blogging here.

  • Business & Investing
  • Children’s Magazines
  • Comics & Graphic Novels
  • Computers & Internet
  • Cooking, Food & Wine

As you can see to the right, there are a lot of different magazines and publications distributed on a regular basis. These magazines are not here to fill the pages of Amazon, they are here because they have a huge audience that is willing to spend money on these subscriptions.

Time To Get Ideas

A place to start are the topics that interest you. If there is something that you find interesting, you will find it easy to write about. You want to get a topic that you will enjoy researching, and your knowledge and enthusiasm will show in your writing. Wait till later for the more difficult topics, after you are more of an expert in niche market blogging.

Start small; don’t go up against the big guys that are in the giant niches like fitness and weight loss. You want to stay in the smaller niches where you will have a lot less competition. Leave the giant niches to the pro’s. You will find some great success in these smaller areas.

Keep It Simple

Here are some ideas to check out:

• Knitting

• Crocheting

• Needlepoint

• Pottery

• Jewelry making

Check It Out

As you go through the magazine subscriptions, look to see how often they go out, if they are only a ‘once a year’ thing, it may be because they don’t have a large enough audience . Most of the more popular craft and hobby magazines go out at least quarterly, and these are the ones to check out.

Once you have decided on a niche idea, take that topic and put it in Google and search for any news or articles on that topic. You may come up with some interesting news or articles on your subject.

Just One Idea

As you can see, there are a lot of ways to get ideas for niche blogging, and this is only one of them. Go for what you love, what interests you, not only will you have a lot more information to work with, but you will thoroughly enjoy the entire process. You may wonder if you are even working at all.

Social Networking – Get On It!

What Can Social Networking Do For You?

Build Your Brand and Develop Some Great Business Contacts

We live in a solution based world, trying to solve our own problems, or the problems of others. These are the goals of most businesses, and the best way to accomplish this goal is through a network. This is where Social Networking comes into play, or should I say, work. When you are using sites such as Facebook or LinkedIn, you have the ability to really reach out and make some great new business contacts.

As you get started, you will find that you spend more time and effort giving to the community than you are getting back. You will find it a bit challenging to keep your personal connections separate from your business connections.

There are three network sites that are great to begin with; Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. These are the leaders when it comes to reaching across several interests.

For a more targeted market if you are in the online business niche, along with 2 partners my new site, ViralNetworks is in prelaunch and is about as targeted as you can get. (shameless self plug!)

Social Networking Advice

Take the time to create a warm and inviting profile, providing all the public information including your current employment to your job history. You want to portray yourself as someone who is thorough and complete in everything you do, and this includes your profile.

Don’t create big spam profiles just filled with links and imitating a Splog (Spam Blog) with a bad case of the runs, be sure to keep it decent sizes, accurate, well written and with correct grammar.

Be Reachable! Provide many ways for others to contact you. Some examples are your IM address, email address, Skype username, Twitter name, as well as a phone number. Create a number of keywords that associate with your niche product, and tie it all closely to your blog.

How Important Is Your Email Signature?

This is very important and will provide value in your networking efforts. In your email signature, include your contact information, links to your blog and LinkedIn profile, making it easier for those to find you.

(Shameless Plug Take Two:) ViralNetworks has a Signature File in your profile, you enter your text in there (make it compelling, make people want to click on it) and then it hyperlinks to your chosen site. This Sig is used on guestbook comments, on the forums, on video comments, so can lead to MASSIVE exposure. It is VERY important to write a compelling Signature, as you are not allowed links ‘in post’ with most sites, including ViralNetworks

If you have any profiles that are currently inactive, clean them up and make sure they are professional. Do a search for your name on Google, Zoominfo, and Spock and see what is out there, delete anything that is not proper or inactive.

From this moment forward, be careful as to what you post, including photos, blog posts, and articles. Anything that can be linked back to you, needs to be professional and easily seen. You will also be seen by subscribing to a site application such as FriendFeed.

You will find benefits of social networking through many of the services available. You will learn how is using these services, and invite them into your network.

Next, you will invite your contacts by email to join your social network, but be careful how you do this…you do not want to become a spammer.

Using ViralInviter With The Brand New ViralNetworks

ViralInviter is an address book importer script that allows you to invite your contacts from your addressbooks. They offer many different accounts that you can use. Below is a Video I made showing how to use viralinviter on my new site, ViralNetworks

As you can see from the video, viralinviter is very easy to use, but is it reliable for the first time user? There are lots of options that you need to gow through and ensure that you set correctly. With ViralNetworks using the default option, members instantly started using it for spam! This caused our IP to be blocked within only 12 hours of launching. Needless to say, this is NOT a good solution. We have since changed the options to be much more strict, set a limit to number of contact imports, removed the ability to upload CSV files and placed a stern warning not to try and abuse the service.

You see, there will always be a few people that ruin it for the masses, so as such in this example, there will be legitmiate users who want to tell more contacts then they will now be able to thanks to the people that spammed Yahoo forums etc.

Verdict on ViralInviter: 7/10 – It is a good script if you set it up correctly, and definately adds a viral aspect to your site… but be careful with it, or your domain WILL get blacklisted!

Aweber – Every Marketers Best Friend!

BIG Call there but….

It’s true. You hear all the time, ‘the money is in the list’ and more recently Frank Kern stated in one of his Mass Control Videos, ‘The Money Is In The Relationship With Your List’. I subscribe to Mr. Kern’s thought process but in order to have a good relationship with your list, you first need to have a list.

Aweber is a List Builder and Autoresponder, for those who don’t know what Aweber does, it allows you to capture your prospects names, emails and anything else you might consider useful and then contact them at will.

With Aweber you can setup unlimited lists, Autoresponders and contact forms and send an unlimited number of messages for one low monthly fee. Aweber are also known for their amazingly high deliverable rates with full time staff working on keeping Aweber off the spam lists so that your email gets delivered.

Aweber Works With Feedburner:

I use Aweber with my sites and Niches and in fact have a couple of accounts with them. It just got even better though, because now Aweber offers the ability to integrate in with your blog, so no longer do you need to use Feedburner email subscription as Aweber now reports your numbers to feedburner and allows you to manage your own list and presentation of the newsletter. The benefits here are huge! If you have some vital information you want to get out to your subscribers, you can just login and send them an email, also for those that use the ‘rss counter’ widget provided by feedburner, your subscribers are now reported and show up on there!

This is a brand new function and I have just added it to my blog. At the moment, every time there are 2 posts made an email is sent out to my subscribers that subscribe to this blog by email, with the content of those posts, allowing my readers to never miss a post.

If you don’t yet have an Aweber account and are serious about making money online, I suggest you get one and start building a list from whatever niche you are targeting online
